Are you considering having a dental crown installed in your mouth to improve your oral health? Congratulations! You probably want to know what the process will be like, eh? Perfect! JDA DMD, LLC is here to give you the basics.

Two visits are typically needed to complete the process. During the first visit, the tooth needing the crown is examined and prepped for the crown. X-rays are taken to make sure the tooth is healthy enough. The tooth enamel will then be gently shaved to make room for the crown, or if too much of the tooth is already missing, we will use filling material to build up the tooth to receive the crown. Dr. John Aston will make a copy of the tooth and surrounding areas; this is called an impression. You will be fitted with a temporary crown to protect your tooth and will then go home.

The impression will be sent to a local dental laboratory. Within a couple weeks or so, your permanent crown will be made.

During the second visit, we will remove the temporary crown and replace it with the new, custom-made crown. We will check that it fits well and that the color matches your other teeth exactly. If it does, all that remains is for you to enjoy your new smile.
