Let’s review some flossing techniques to make sure your teeth stay healthy and clean for this holiday season!

First, take an 18” piece of single-filament floss and wind it around your index fingers. Use a gentle rocking motion to slip the floss between your two front teeth, down to the gum line.continue the gentle sawing motion as you carefully remove plaque and debris from between your teeth. Repeat around every tooth–including behind the back molars!

This is really all there is to it. Flossing is very easy–but many people have a hard time getting into the habit. Sometimes it is uncomfortable, or you have a hard time getting the floss around every tooth. If you have problems flossing your teeth, don’t worry. There are other interdental cleaning options, such as water flossers, pre-strung flossers, floss for sensitive teeth, and dental picks created specifically for this purpose. Talk with Dr. John Aston and our team about potential alternatives.

If you are just starting to floss regularly, be aware that it is normal to feel slight discomfort at first. If the pain or discomfort does not go away after 2 weeks, call and set an appointment for our team to look at it.
