We know how important it is to brush teeth twice every day, once in the morning and once in the evening. However, many people are not aware of the bad teeth brushing habits that they may be guilty of. Dr. John Aston and our team have compiled this list of bad teeth brushing habits to break for a healthier smile.
If you only replace your toothbrush when you come to our office, you are holding onto your toothbrush for too long. A toothbrush should be replaced every three to four months. Also, if a toothbrush’s bristles begin to look frayed or broken, it is time to replace it.
Brushing After Meals
If you’d like to go the extra mile and brush after meals, that’s fine. However, remember to wait 30 minutes first, especially if you had anything acidic. You may drink water or chew sugarless gum while you wait to regain that clean, fresh feeling.
The average person brushes their teeth for 45 seconds, but it is recommended that people brush for a full two minutes during each session.
Pressure on the Teeth
Many people brush their teeth harder than is needful for an effective clean. If you brush too hard, you can damage your tooth enamel or gums.
